NORTH WALES AREA For members in North Wales Area Rep: Matt Reeves Land Rover/s owned. Too many! I caught the Land Rover bug from my mum at an early age and grew up with them. I've owned at least one example of most leaf sprung models at some point over the past twenty five years and the current collection stands at eleven, plus an early Defender and a couple of early Freelanders!. When did you get your first Land Rover? The first one I actually bought came when I was 17, a 1964 military Mk8 FFR, but my 1964 2a 88" has been in my family since I was five and is currently awaiting rebuild. I freely confess to being a "rivet counter" especially when it comes to the early military models. What do you use your current Land Rover for? The Freelanders get used as daily workhorses, hauling trailers and just about anything else associated with life on an upland smallholding. The Series are kept for the pleasure of owning, restoring and driving them, but are put to work on occasions as well (usually when one of the newer models has thrown a hissy fit). What advice would you give someone wanting to get their first leaf sprung Land Rover? Make sure what you are buying is what it purports to be! Check that the numbers on the chassis, chassis plate and registration document all match and the vehicle is generally correct for the model/year. Contact: northwales@series123club.co.uk |
