HERTS & UPPER GREAT OUSE AREA
For members in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire. Area Rep: Greg Dean assisted by Russ Beck. I am a relative newbie here in many ways. I have owned my Series 2A 88” petrol, aka Nellie since 2020. My intention had been to buy something that needed work but that was at least roadworthy. However, when I saw the advert for Nellie fully restored and she was just down the road from where I live, the rest was history.
The other important part of this story was from whom I bought, Nellie, a one Mr Russ Beck, who will be known to many folks within the club. Important of note here because though I may be rep/point of contact for the Herts and Upper Great Ouse region, Russ is most definitely activities coordinator for this region, and we will be running things jointly between us.
For me this is a great opportunity to hopefully meet a load of new folks with similar interests. A chance to learn more about the ups and downs of land rover ownership, go green laning with Russ, go camping, go to the pub or just to a cafe for tea and cake, all in the land rovers.
My first experience driving a series Land Rover (a Series 3) was many years ago as a teenager driving one on the land of a friend’s family in Essex near where I grew up.
Best advice I was given about land rovers was that it will leak oil just don’t worry about it!
Words: Greg Dean I've also driven many hundreds of miles green laning, covering most counties in England and Wales and a bit in Scotland on private estates. My preference is exploration and seeking out the more challenging routes whilst keeping within responsible guidelines. This I'll be encouraging or members to take part in with their Series leaf sprung Landrovers.
I have a small workshop where I maintain my vehicles, currently three Series 2a's. Over the years I've fully restored or renovated about 15 series landies. Doing everything except machining work. I've assisted some members in the maintenance of their vehicles too.
So as you can see I have a lot of experience with these slow, noisy, rusty, muddy, temperamental and leaky means of transport we call fun.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and enjoying our vehicles together. Using them to their abilities and design, whether we're laning, trialing, repairing, away camping or even just a road trip to sit in a pub, I'm sure we'll have fun.
